I know a lot of folks don’t get Twitter. You always get those that think why would I want to let the world know I fed the cat or masturbated nine times today (man I went blind that day LOL), oops.

My point is that if you want to Tweet “I just had a dump” you can, that’s the beauty of Twitter. But you can also use it for many many more things than that. I have just picked out two examples below and how they could utilise Twitter

DJ’s you could tweet a list of your playlist for your upcoming show. You could TwitPic behind the scenes pictures of you doing the show. Tweet links to competitions or accept competition answers from Twitter followers. If you have a mix site you can tweet links to your mix site. You know the possibilities are endless.

Journalists you can tweet links that direct followers straight to your story, yes your story. No wading through a papers website to get to your bit. Just tweet the link direct to your story. Also you can tweet a breaking story from your cell phone direct to your followers and newsroom. As Twitter is worldwide you could get spotted and be asked to write for a huge news organisation, or even be given your own webpage to write there and get paid megabucks. Hey you never know :)

The only thing that holds back how you use Twitter is your imagination. I would suggest those that have not used it, get off your arse give it a go. Get some followers, say hello to them, tweet some links to your stuff. You will be surprised how quick you get involved, more importantly how involved they get in you.

To date my local newspaper, The Didcot Herald has not even graced me with an answer. 

Today I found the email addresses of all the staff and sent them all this email:

 

Hello I thought I may try emailing all of you. To date I have not had an answer to my previous emails to the editor of the Didcot Herald.

Would it be possible for the Didcot Herald to have a Twitter account so that it can push out news updates to followers on the Twitter website?

A lot of local US papers use Twitter and push out little news updates as they come in. You can also use it to reference your website and paper, it could increase the traffic to your website.

The Twitter website is at http://twitter.com and no I don’t work for them, I just think it is a great tool and would like to see my local paper go cutting edge :)

Please can someone from there at least have the manners to reply to an email asking questions?

Well lets hope this time at least one of them answer. One of the main skills of journalism is communication, very poor Didcot Herald, very poor.
