<p>TweetDeck release v0.33.0 of their popular Twitter desktop client. The changes are a plenty.</p>
<p>A huge raft of improvements in functionality. A brand new API monitor that looks at each of your columns you have open, my poor iPhone picture below.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.ernmander.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/api.jpg" rel="lightbox[663]"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-665" title="api" src="http://www.ernmander.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/api.jpg" alt="" width="779" height="444" /></a></p>
<p>The amount of media that can be played or viewed from directly within TweetDeck has increased, most notably YouTube. The image below shows you some of the new features within TweetDeck.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.ernmander.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/New-in-TweetDeck-v0.33.0.jpg" rel="lightbox[663]"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-664" title="New in TweetDeck v0.33.0" src="http://www.ernmander.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/New-in-TweetDeck-v0.33.0.jpg" alt="" width="713" height="509" /></a></p>
<p>I have always loved the ability to use 12Seconds from within TweetDeck.</p>
<p><object width="853" height="505"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/U0R7GjtBE5Q&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/U0R7GjtBE5Q&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="853" height="505"></embed></object></p>
<p>There is still the ability to monitor and post to your Facebook. You can also keep track on your MySpace and LinkedIn.</p>
<p>The only improvement I would love to see in TweetDeck would be the ability to collapse the columns.</p>
<p>Go play with TweetDeck, there are loads of hidden features that I have not touched on. You can find <a href="http://www.tweetdeck.com">TweetDeck here</a>. I did notice this version of TweetDeck seems quicker. This must be due to the new way it interacts with the Twitter API.</p>
<p>New video below on all the new functions of TweetDeck.</p>
<p><object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" width="853" height="505" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="src" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/KtbjWcpVg0U&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1&amp;hd=1" /><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="853" height="505" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/KtbjWcpVg0U&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1&amp;hd=1" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></p>

<p>Today another <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk">BBC</a> TV show, The One Show took time out to wax lyrical about <a href="http://twitter.com">Twitter</a>. But I am not sure that this report got the idea of <a href="http://twitter.com">Twitter</a> right. I think it was lazy and a little misleading on what and why <a href="http://twitter.com">Twitter</a> is. Ok it explains the mechanics of <a href="http://twitter.com">Twitter</a> “what are you doing”</p>
<p>My concern is the celebrity element taking over <a href="http://twitter.com">Twitter</a>. By this I mean the UK celebrity element the C’ list celebrity. You only have to watch the embedded video and see Richard Bacon’s primary concern is the numbers of followers that <a href="http://twitter.com/stephenfry">@stephenfry</a> and <a href="http://twitter.com/wossy">@wossy</a> have (both respected tweeters by me).</p>
<p>We in the UK tend to <a href="http://twitter.com">Twitter</a> differently to say <a href="http://twitter.com">Twitter</a> users in the USA. I think we tend to be more personal and use it as more of chat and blog advertising place than a network to advance careers etc. Of course that is a sweeping statement and not true for all UK and USA users.</p>
<p>My concern about the UK media coverage of <a href="http://twitter.com">Twitter</a> is that I think most of the UK media don’t get what <a href="http://twitter.com">Twitter</a> is. One media guy explained to me that <a href="http://twitter.com">Twitter</a> is for updating your <a href="http://facebook.com">FaceBook</a> status, so yes he totally got it (insert sarcasm just there).</p>
<p>There are TV shows in the UK that have <a href="http://twitter.com">Twitter</a> just right <a href="http://twitter.com/workinglunch">@workinglunch</a> is one of them. It is a perfect platform for a show with a news agenda. Look at the news networks in the USA, most have <a href="http://twitter.com">Twitter</a> accounts and interact with their <a href="http://twitter.com">Twitter</a> audience.</p>
<p>I love the fact that <a href="http://twitter.com">Twitter</a> is getting UK press but knowing our C’ list celebrities they will turn it into the bastard child of <a href="http://myspace.com">Myspace</a>. They will use it to brag about “look I have more followers than you” etc.</p>
<p>Tech changes and evolves into something that the creator of that tech never imagined or intended. <a href="http://twitter.com">Twitter</a> has evolved way beyond what it was originally intended for, it has spawned many apps and offshoots.</p>
<p>Twitter is a very personal thing to each of us tweeters, I just hope that the way certain TV shows in the UK are reporting on it does not turn it into the previously mentioned bastard child of <a href="http://myspace.com">Myspace</a>.</p>
<p>I love <a href="http://twitter.com">Twitter</a> and really hope our C’ list celebrities in the UK don’t fuck up our warm place <img src='http://www.ernmander.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p><a href="http://twitter.com/ernmander">Me on Twitter</a></p>
<p>Watch the <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk">BBC</a> The One Show report on <a href="http://twitter.com">Twitter</a> and see if you have the same concerns as me.</p>
