I like most Mac users in the UK pre-ordered my copy of Snow Leopard online from the Mac store. Today is the release day. Where is my copy of Snow Leopard? Well like the rest of us who pre-ordered it is sat in Holland.

The whole idea of pre-ordering is so you get the product on day of release. Some of us do not live near Apple stores or Apple resellers. Pre-order seemed like a perfect way of ensuring we would get our nice shiny OS on time. Well today was a complete mockery of the pre-order system, Apple you fail.

My Snow Leopard has run off

I for one am so disappointed and will not use Apples pre-order system again.

Oh my copy of Snow Leopard is due on 2nd September, quite some time after the official release. I hope it enjoys it’s weekend in Holland

Skype for iPhone was released in UK today. So it was with huge excitement I went to The App Store and downloaded my free copy of the Skype app. Like the Mac and PC version it is a free download.

Now for the sad news. My iPhone is running the current version of OS 3.0 BETA the Skype app does not work with this OS. I have managed to do one successful test call, when played back sounded ropey.

When trying to make calls the app just hangs so you have to close the app, but after you close the app the iPhone makes a very odd ticking sound.

Ah the woes of BETA software, but I know users running OS 2.2.1 are having some difficulties too. Maybe the app has been rushed or maybe the iPhone OS is not ready.

Please also note that the Skype app does not work on Jailbroken iPhones, the app opens then closes on these iPhones. The latest news is that if you update the Mobile Substrate this improves the stability of the of the Skype app.

I do find it hard to understand how an app like Nimbuzz manages to do Skype perfectly on all iPhone OS and Skype themselves cannot. I am not entertaining Fring as a Skype app as the call quality is shockingly poor.

Looks like I and maybe a few others will be sticking with Nimbuzz to make our Skype calls, till Skype and the iPhone OS see eye to eye.

There have been new releases of PwnageTool and QuickPwn that Jailbreak the 2.1 iPhone firmware. 

I can confirm this new tool works I have just Jailbroken my 2.1 iPhone using it.

Personally I would not use any Jailbreak software to jailbreak the 3G iPhone.

I use jailbreak software on my 2G iPhone, I paid £250 for the phone (now replaced by my 3G iPhone) and feel I have the right to use it as a test bed. My 3G will always use Apple original software.

As for the opposition of iPhone-Dev there are only screenshots of XiPhone, will it ever be released?
